Spike TV has greenlit its very own cooking competition show starring NYC chef Josh Capon. Called Frankenfood, the show will feature "local amateur food innovators competing head-to-head in order to get their unexpected food concoctions onto the menu of a popular local restaurant." Aside from getting their dishes onto a local restaurant's menu, competitors have the chance to win a $10,000 prize. Joining Capon for judging will be Philadelphia-based actor/restaurateur Tony Luke Jr., plus a rotating panel of "culinary experts." The show will be shot in different cities nationwide.

Capon is the executive chef and partner at New York City's Lure Fishbar, B&B Winepub, and El Toro Blanco, and is working on opening Lure Fishbar in Miami. (He's also a three-time winner of Rachael Ray's Burger Bash.) On top of judging the dishes on Frankenfood, Capon will also go into the participants' kitchens to learn about how the dishes are made. Filming will begin this Fall.

Capon tells Eater that Frankenfoods will be "kind of fun, crazy, entertaining and adventurous like myself." As examples of "classic frankenfoods," Capon names Reuben sandwiches, Beef Wellington, peanut butter cups, and the Chipwich. Capon says he is hoping "to find some really great flavor combinations that have not been discovered yet." Spike TV has ordered ten 30-minute episodes for a Spring 2014 premiere. Below, the press release:
