Martha Stewart Boldly Backtracks on Bloggers

Hillary Dixler Canavan is Eater's restaurant editor and the author of the publication's debut book, Eater: 100 Essential Restaurant Recipes From the Authority on Where to Eat and Why It Matters (Abrams, September 2023). Her work focuses on dining trends and the people changing the industry — and scouting the next hot restaurant you need to try on Eater's annual Best New Restaurant list.

Martha Stewart wants you to know that she doesn't hate all bloggers. Last night she tweeted in the third person: "Big hubbub about me not supporting bloggers. Martha Stewart loves most bloggers who are great friends and trusted allies." Her statement is a follow up to comments she made earlier this week on Bloomberg TV. In her Bloomberg interview, Stewart said: "Who are these bloggers? They're not editors at Vogue magazine ... bloggers create kind of a popularity, but they are not the experts."

In that Bloomberg interview, Stewart also discussed actress/cookbook author Gwyneth Paltrow, saying "She wants to be a lifestyle arbiter, fine, good. I think I started this whole category of lifestyle." While Stewart has backtracked on bloggers, she has yet to clarify or revise her statements about Paltrow.
