Sean Brock & His Mom Make Chicken 'n Dumplings

Here's a video from this week's "Roots"-themed episode of The Mind of a Chef, in which Sean Brock gets together with his mom, Renee, to cook some chicken 'n dumplings like old times. Brock says that this is his favorite dish of all time, claiming, "I've been trying to make it for the last 16 years the way she makes it, and I can't do it. I gave up." Brock later adds that he's asked his mom politely to please start measuring things so that his inability to make her dumplings will quit haunting him at night. He also notes that she stopped wanting to cook with him after he went through culinary school because it was no fun anymore. Aw. Here, go watch:
