So what is Top Chef Just Desserts season two winner Chris Hanmer up to now? Well, seems he's left Las Vegas behind and is now planning to open a patisserie in... Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Hanmer makes an appearance on the Argus Leader's Morning Conversation to talk about his new plans, a shop opening this spring named CH Patisserie. In the interview, Hanmer explains the move was related to wanting to be near his wife's family — and, on Twitter, he indicated he will still be offering classes through his Vegas-based School of Pastry Design.
As for the patisserie, Hanmer says its tagline is going to be "sweet luxury" and will attempt to create a "big city experience right here in downtown." Hanmer says he thinks Sioux Falls is ready for it, and so he'll still be doing the same style of dessert he was doing on Top Chef — though presumably with fewer show pieces? So there will be a line of petits gateaux, macarons, bonbons, chocolate bars, caramels and cookies, plus gluten-free items, pastry classes, and catering availability. Here's the interview, and the part about the shop starts around 12 minutes in.
