Grain of salt because it's an anonymous commenter, but someone who claims to be an ex-employee of Mario Batali responds to the chef's claims that he's "actively working" on changing the working culture in his company: "My experience in his company was nothing like what he is going for now. I hope what he says about a new direction is true, because a lot of wonderfully talented and positive people were worn to nothing in his company's care. To this point, I imagine the talent he has nurtured versus the talent he has lost or destroyed to be a ratio not in his favor. For every genius like Ladner that emerged from under his wing, there are twenty bright, hard-working people who had their positivity and creativity squashed while receiving a Batali/Bastianich paycheck."
