Legendary San Francisco Bay Area chef Jeremiah Tower is indeed getting back in the game with plans for a massive food hall destined for the Echo Bay Naval Armory in New Rochelle, New York. Last month it was revealed that the chef of Chez Panisse and Stars fame had submitted a bid for the armory's restaurant space and now Toqueland brings word that Tower is IN with the winning bid. Here's a press release quotation from the man himself, explaining just how much this project means to him:
The New Rochelle Armory project brings together for the first time all the projects I love: farming culinary ingredients and teaching and cooking what is produced every day; restaurants, performing arts and architecture; public gardens; and restoring historic buildings. This project represents the culmination of my career and will provide the opportunity to inspire and launch the careers of others.
Apparently, the project — for which Tower will officially serve as executive culinary director — is going to include restaurants, an agricultural distribution component and it will be "a center for culinary education."
