'Pink Slime' Manufacturer Sues ABC News For $1.2 Billion

Big Beef has decided someone's head is going to roll for that whole Pink Slime mess, and that someone is ABC. According to the AP, Beef Products Inc. is suing ABC for $1.2 billion (that's with a "B") over "roughly 200 'false and misleading and defamatory' statements." The lawsuit claims the "defendants engaged in a monthlong vicious, concerted disinformation campaign against BPI."

BPI had previously run a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal decrying the media's "mis-information campaign" surrounding what they call "Lean Finely Trimmed Beef." (Alternately, what Jon Stewart called "pink slime, ammonia my mulched-up cow corpse.")

A rep for BPI said the "result of that has been catastrophic for this company (plants were closed), but ABC isn't worried. Senior VP Jeffrey Schneider says, "The lawsuit is without merit." For some of that pink slime hate, check out the ABCNews report from March below:
