Musician and entrepreneur Jay-Z is suing Mike Shand, the chef who was the superstar's personal cook before taking over the kitchen of his 12,000 square-foot New York City sports lounge/sports bar the 40/40 Club. Jay-Z is slamming Shand with a $1.5 million suit. According to the New York Post, Shand was hired to be the chef of 40/40 as part of a $10 million revamp of the business, but Jay-Z's lawyers argue that he "failed to perform" and deliver on his part of the deal, which ended up "costing the club lost profits, loss of good will [and] alienation of clientele."
Shand, who hails from New Zealand, is still listed as the chef on the lounge's website, but the article notes that he's currently living in California. Whether or not Shand has $1.5 million remains to be seen.
Jay-Z opened the New York location of 40/40 in 2003 and then followed it up with a second location in Atlantic City in 2005. A third outpost will open at the end of September in the new Barclays Center, future home of the Brooklyn Nets, a development which the mogul has spearheaded.
