The case of Guy Fieri's stolen Lamborghini just keeps getting better: at some point very early in the morning on suspect Max Wade's 18th birthday, someone tried to spring him from the juvenile detention center where he was being held in San Rafael, California. The AP reports the breakout was most likely an attempt to prevent Wade from being transferred to an adult jail, but it was not a success. It seems the would-be liberators' whole "break through the wall with a sledgehammer" scheme wasn't fast enough to bust Wade out before they were detected by security.
Security for the juvenile center found wire cutters next to a hole in a chain link fence in addition to a sledgehammer outside of Wade's cell, the window of which had been damaged but not broken enough for Wade to flee. Marin County chief probation officer Michael Daly told the Marin Independent Journal of the escape attempt, "It was pretty dumb."
Anyway, Wade didn't escape and was transferred to the Marin County Jail with the real grownup criminals; his bail is set at $2 million. The escape artists fled on foot and have yet to be apprehended. Below, a couple local news reports on the breakout attempt.
