While rumors of a Jamie Oliver restaurant in Los Angeles remain just rumors, the British chef has announced his first North American restaurant investment in Montreal. Oliver has invested in Maison Publique, a gastropub to be helmed by a former employee, Derek Dammann. Dammann, who is Canadian, worked his way up through the ranks at Oliver's Fifteen in London before moving back to Canada when his work visa expired.
The restaurant will be an "old-school, British-style tavern" and don't expect Jamie Oliver's smiling face everywhere you turn. Dammann tells the Montreal Gazette, "It's not going to be branded a 'Jamie Oliver' restaurant. You won't see his cookbooks in the window." Still, having a famous name attached to your restaurant can't hurt. Maison Publique is set to open in September.
