Speculation that David Chang is expanding his Momofuku empire to sunny Houston, Texas is misguided and, for the time being, wildly incorrect. Over the weekend rumors blew up that NY Knicks players Jeremy Lin was going to sign a three-year contract with the Houston Rockets, and David Chang, a big Lin fan, tweeted: "@momofuku is looking to sign a three year lease in Houston, Texas."
This morning Eater Houston pointed out that the tweet was a joke, but a bunch of people didn't get it, including journalists who blindly retweeted Chang and several websites that reported the tweet as actual news. Eater reached out to Momofuku PR who denied the Houston expansion plan. "There's nothing to confirm at this time," wrote the rep. "Although, Dave certainly loves Jeremy Lin enough to possibly consider Houston."
Chang's Momofuku has been on a slow expansion process in the last year, with a project coming soon in Toronto and Momofuku Seiobo that opened in Sydney, Australia last October. Don't count out further expansion, but don't count on Chang to look for real estate via Twitter either.
