New York restaurant industry veteran/wife of Anthony Bourdain Ottavia Bourdain is executive producing a pilot for a web series called Employees Only. Bourdain tells Eater it's a show "I have been working on for years, with zero budget and zero sponsors. With a very hard working group of committed people, we've made something we hope will eventually be a web series. Intended audience? Restaurant people and ex-restaurant people like us."
Bourdain made the show with Tania Van Pelt, a "good friend from back in the days in the restaurant business." A trailer for the show and an interview with Bourdain and Van Pelt were online earlier today but have since been made private.
Employee's Only was shot at New York's Zio restaurant and features cameos by actress Debi Mazaar as well as Anthony Bourdain. Hijinks undoubtedly ensue. Bourdain tells Eater her husband "thinks we should dub it in Spanish and market it as a telenovela, but what does he know?!" Below, the official summary from production company Sky Theory:
Employees Only is a scripted dramedy centered around the high-energy, high-stakes world of restaurants in New York City. Pascal is opening the latest in his chain of successful high-end restaurants and he's brought along his A-team: a talented crew of internationals who like to play as hard as they work.
In the über-competitive world of gastronomy, can he keep himself and his team focused enough to create another hit, or will the drama and catty infighting result in a catastrophic loss to his portfolio and more importantly, his reputation?
