Those dining in and around St. Mary's County, Maryland beware: there's been a recent outbreak of rabies in the area. Late last week a rabid skunk walked into one of Jimmy Buffet's chain restaurants, Cheeseburger in Paradise and bit a woman in the foot. The staff at the restaurant trapped the skunk under a box and held it there until animal control officers could arrive on the scene. A specialist from the county health department says to watch out for animals that are out of their normal environments, "skunks are generally nocturnal, so seeing them in that setting, at a business, that's probably not usual."
The attack was the sixth incident in the region that has involved a rabid animal. Also, one might want to think twice before heading to a Cheeseburger in Paradise: you'll not only have to listen to countless hours of Jimmy Buffet, but you'll also have to watch out for rabid animals.
