Time for mid-week reviews: Pete Wells examines the "deeply felt but little examined belief that immigrant-run restaurants, like presidential candidates, should not pay too much attention to their appearance" at Cafe China in New York and gives it two stars. Michael Bauer eats at Redd Wood in the Napa Valley, where the veal breast would make "Italian grandmothers weep and secretly try to figure out the recipe." He gives it three stars.
