Starbucks Likely to Remove Bug Juice From Frappuccinos

New, 8 comments

In an effort to use more natural ingredients in their drinks, Starbucks replaced the artificial dye in their Strawberries & Creme Frappuccinos with cochineal extract, which is made from South American beetles. And now because the vegans threw a collective fit about the replacement dye, it seems the company will likely switch the dye again. CEO Howard Schultz tells CBS:

"No good deed goes undone. We tried to embrace an all-natural method for this product...We are examining it and probably will reformulate (the drink). ... We're looking at (alternative ingredients). We're going to make the right decision."

See, vegans, this is why we can't have nice things. Here's Schultz on CBS News; he discusses the Frappuccino issue at 5:40.
