First Look: Martha's American Food by Martha Stewart

What's more American than apple pie? Apple pie by Martha Stewart. (Hey, apparently everyone else steals her pâte brisée recipe, so it must be good.) In Martha's American Food, Stewart trots out all the standbys: apple pie, yes, and meatloaf and mashed potatoes and pimento cheese and strawberry shortcake and roast turkey with all the trimmings. She also gets regional: New England clam chowder, green goddess dressing from the West Coast, the Heartland's grilled sausages and sauerkraut.

The recipes are basic, sure, but since they're Stewart's you know they're also likely perfect. Master these and you'll have a pretty solid foundation in American cuisine.
