Last night on the finale of Top Chef Texas, Paul Qui won the title of Top Chef, beating out Sarah Grueneberg. Qui is the executive chef of Uchiko in Austin, TX. He also co-owns several Asian street food trailers called East Side King.
"All season long you just brought it," said head judge Tom Colicchio to Qui, who was absolutely dominant during the series, winning 8 out of 16 elimination challenges. Colicchio continued, "In the end it was about as close as it can get." But Paul Qui was declared winner of Top Chef season nine (and won $125,000).
"I am extremely happy to see my dad and mom being there... and everybody I have met through out this journey," said Qui. "The magnitude of what we've done since San Antonio is so broad I can't describe it." Qui tweeted a photo from a viewing party last night at Uchiko and also wrote "Thank you everyone for all your support!!! Cheers!!!!"
Max Silvestri's recap is coming later today, but for now here's video of Paul Qui winning:
