Behold this excerpt from New York chef April Bloomfield's forthcoming cookbook, A Girl and Her Pig. As Bloomfield explained during a visit to the Eater Lounge at the Cayman Cookout last month, this isn't a restaurant book but rather one that focuses on the personal; according to Bloomfield, it's "a thank you and a nod to the people who helped me become who I am today and the cook I am today."

And, indeed, in this excerpt the chef shares recipes like a beef and Bayley Hazen pie that's "a grander version" of the meat pies she ate while growing up. The book is set for release on April 10.
