As was rumored last week, LA Weekly has announced that their restaurant critic, Jonathan Gold, is leaving the newspaper for a job at the Los Angeles Times. No word on the specifics of what Gold will do at the Times, nor whether he will be replacing current Times critic S. Irene Virbila. There's also no word on who will replace Gold at LA Weekly.
Gold has written for LA Weekly since 1982, and in 2007 became the first ever restaurant critic to win a Pulitzer Prize for his work there. He has also upon occasion written for the LA Times. Virbila, who was rather dramatically unmasked a little over a year ago by angry restaurateurs, has been the critic for the Times since 1994.
