Washington Bar Owner Lets Customers Smoke Marijuana

Washington state recently passed a ballot initiative legalizing recreational marijuana use, and now one brave Olympia bar is stepping up and inviting pot smokers to come use recreationally. Frankie's Sports Bar & Grill has opened its members-only club Friends of Frankies to marijuana users. Up til now, the bar's second floor club was merely a place for patrons to smoke cigarettes indoors, but owner Frank Schnarr tells Reuters, "I'm about to lose my business. So I've got to figure out some way to get people in here." And so now Friends of Frankies members will be able to smoke tobacco and cannabis.

Friends of Frankies currently has 10,000 members, all of whom pay a $10 annual membership fee. Schnarr says he's gotten over 40 new members since he announced the club would allow marijuana smoking, but notes that he's not interested in "Olympia's sizable transient crowd, or stoned college students."

That's not all: Schnarr says he's thought about adding a medical marijuana dispensary to the property. Also, he has launched a $4.20 appetizer menu that includes "breaded shrimp, breaded cheese sticks and breaded mushrooms." Well, the guy knows his customers.
