$450 Steel Starbucks Cards Selling on eBay For $1,000+

As of this posting, 143 limited edition metal Starbucks gift cards have sold on eBay for around $1,000 a piece. The cards were part of a deal with Gilt Taste: they originally cost $450, and offered the purchaser $400 in 'Bucks bucks, automatic gold-level Starbucks membership benefits (such as free drinks, sometimes), and, of course, the metal card itself. Only 5,000 were made, and fans of Starbucks have had a hard time getting a hold of them. If Eater commenters are to be believed, they weren't too happy about it. Gilt even apologized, kind of. So fans have turned to eBay.

If you're willing to spend over twice as much money as the gift card originally cost, eBay can help even the biggest crazed Starbucks fan get his or her paws on the metal gift card of their dreams. Cards have been selling for an average of about a grand, but at least one sold for $1,500.

And the price is only going up. Two brave Starbuckspreneurs are attempting to sell their coveted cards for $5,000 each. For $5,000, couldn't you just get some buddies together and invest in a Starbucks franchise? Anyway, if you want a black market metal Starbucks card, better act fast.
