And so it came to pass that last evening, on the second floor of the Bowery Hotel, Team Eater joined its friends and acquaintances from the restaurant and nightlife industries to toast the nominees and winners of the Eater Awards 2012. Accompanied by unseasonably nice weather, chefs from Portland restaurant Ox, Boston's O-Ya, San Francisco's State Bird Provisions, Yardbird in Miami, New Orleans' Maurepas Foods, Houston's Oxheart, and hometown hero Gwynnett St served up deliciousness to a room packed with food-obsessed revelers. By the DJ booth, custom cans of Eater Awards-brand signature Italian Peeled Tomatoes were stacked high, emblazoned with the names of the Eater Award winners from across this great nation.

· There was one major topic of the night, besides the Eater Awards winners, and that was Hurricane Sandy: which restaurateur's summer house in Breezy Point got destroyed, which chef had to walk his dog in the dark with a machete, who's getting insurance money and who isn't, whose meat was saved by Team LaFrieda, who's doing fundraisers and charity events.
· Harold Dieterle showed up with a beard.
· Mandy Oser is mulling over possible future locations for her wine bar hit Ardesia. Brooklyn is a distinct possibility. More than anything, she wants to offer her chef, Amorette Casaus, a bit more space to work.
· Noah and Rae Bernamoff say that they are mulling over their options in Red Hook, where their new facility was wiped out by Hurricane Sandy. Customer support at Mile End Deli and Mile End Sandwich has been off the charts since the storm.
· King of Tribeca Drew Nieporent has no interest in joining Twitter. But if you see him, please ask him to join Twitter.
· Will Guidara says the EMP/Alinea switch was fun and a lot of work, but things are back to normal at The Nomad/EMP.
· Yes, there were meat doughnuts. And fried quail and charcuterie and octopus topped with chicken and lamb and uni and all kinds of delicious foodstuffs. See below:

· In 2010, we brought out the Korilla truck for a late night surprise. Last year it rained milk and cookies. For 2012, we saw a rare appearance from the Crif Dogs hot dog truck, serving up a special Gwynnett St hotdog in front of afterparty spot L'apicio.
