The Michelin stars for San Francisco, the Bay Area and Wine Country have been announced, and the big news this year is that chef Dominique Crenn's Atelier Crenn has been awarded a second star. This makes Crenn the only two-Michelin starred female chef in the country and, as pricewatcher Ryan Sutton notes, a Good Deal after recently dropping the entry level price of her five course menu.
Italian restaurant SPQR, fresh off releasing a new cookbook, was awarded one star for the first time, as were Keiko à Nob Hill and All Spice. The French Laundry and The Restaurant at Meadowood each maintained their three stars and remain the only three star restaurants in the area. But perhaps not for long: Michelin director Michael Ellis tells Eater SF, "I'm quite hopeful, expectant that there will be more stars, and more three stars, in San Francisco."
