Watch McDonald's UK's Potentially Offensive Commercial For a Spanish Grande With Chorizo

Photo: McDonald's UK

McDonald's UK is kicking off a four-week Great Tastes of the World promotion with a burger called the Spanish Grande with Chorizo. It's a cheeseburger with chorizo, red and yellow peppers, "mature" cheddar cheese, Batavia lettuce, a "bravas-style" sauce, and a paprika-topped bun. The chain has put together a somewhat dubious, potentially offensive ad campaign to promote the burger. It includes an image of a donkey (Sancho Panza's favorite, remember?) bedecked in all sorts of Spanish things (like a sombrero), hanging out on the shores of glamorous British tourist town Blackpool.

McDonald's must also contend with the fact that a Google search of the term "Spanish Grande with Chorizo" gives "What does 'mi chorizo grande' mean in Spanish?" as the most popular result. (Literally: "my big sausage." You can guess where it goes from there.) See below for the burger's ad, complete with flamenco dancers and gilded fans, naturally:
