McDonald's shut down about 50 24-hour locations on the North Island of New Zealand this weekend because they weren't quite sure the hamburger buns didn't have broken glass in them. Apparently a broken light bulb was found near a production line and, according to the Sunday Star-Times, "suppliers could not guarantee glass had not entered the buns." This being the middle of the night on a Friday, an Auckland McDonald's manager told the newspaper that she had "a lot of angry drunk customers." Yes, probably there were. The McDonald's were closed from 10:30 PM to 3:00 AM. There were no injuries.
