Are Bobby Flay and Giada de Laurentiis Getting a Daytime TV Talk Show?

Is the world ready for the food-fueled perkiness of Giada de Laurentiis and Bobby Flay first thing in the morning? No? Too bad: according to New York Post sources, the duo is in talks to star in a morning talk show "as soon as next year." So, like, 2013? Or this year? The Post is unclear.

With the departure of Regis Philbin from the daytime scene, it seems the TV-watching masses are clamoring for fresh blood, and they're not after the boozy antics of Kathie Lee and Hoda. These days you need more than just a shouty New Yorker and a bubbly blonde to make it on daytime. You need a hook. And with the "surprising success" of ABC's daytime foodstravaganza The Chew (ratings are now on par with the soaps it replaced), that hook is food. That Flay is a New Yorker and de Laurentiis a bubbly not-quite-blonde are just bonuses.

The Food Network stars have appeared together on television before, judging the Next Food Network Star. Also, apparently they have the same agent, who, alas, declined to comment. For now this is just rumor; stay tuned.
