Look: rich Canadians like to buy expensive food, too. Or at least that's the hope of dougie luv [sic], proprietor of Vancouver's DougieDogs and the creator of what is now the world's most expensive hot dog. The $100 Dragon Dog — called as such because of, you know, it's the Year of the Dragon — features a foot-long bratwurst infused with hundred-year-old Louis XIII cognac (which costs over $2000 a bottle), Kobe beef seared in olive and truffle oil, fresh lobster, and a secret "picante sauce." ($100 Canadian is about $98.68 US, so the price is comparable.)

The previous most expensive hot dog cost $80 and was made at a ballpark in Massachussetts; the current official Guinness record holder is the haute dog at Serendipity in New York, which sold for $69. America, this is not to be borne: It is time to reclaim that super expensive hot dog title from our neighbors to the North. Get on it, and avoid the mystery special sauce. Here's a press release:

Most Expensive Hot Dog in the World Infused with $2000 Cognac

Would you spend a hundred bucks to taste the most mouth-wateringly delicious gourmet hot dog on the planet?

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Jan. 24, 2012 dougieDog Hot Dogs, a popular Vancouver eatery renowned for its creative all-natural hot dogs, has just added the Dragon Dog to its menu -- with a price tag of $100. The hot dog features a foot-long bratwurst infused with hundred-year-old Louis XIII cognac, which costs over $2000 a bottle. Also on the dog, Kobe beef seared in olive and truffle oil and fresh lobster. A picante sauce (ingredients undisclosed) ties the flavors together for 12 inches of absolute culinary decadence.

"In designing this hot dog I wanted to come up with something super tasty and high-end that stays true to the traditional identity of the hot dog -- a hot dog that any hot dog lover would enjoy," explained dougieDOG proprietor and Chief Hot Dog Designer dougie luv.

So why the name "Dragon Dog"?

"Two reasons. First, the launch of this hot dog coincides with the beginning of Chinese Year of the Dragon. It also coincides with our appearance on Dragon's Den, the most popular show on Canadian television."

Dragon Dog is not a limited time item but a regular feature on a menu which already boasts popular (and much less expensive) choices like the CharlieMac Dog, Seoul Dog, and Super Mario Dog.

Dragon Dog is the first hot dog in the world to sell for three figures. It challenges current Guinness record holder the "haute dog" at Serendipity restaurant in New York which costs $69.
