Danny Meyer's Union Square Hospitality Group announced plans today to open a Shake Shack in Coral Gables, Florida, right across the street from the University of Miami. Located at 1450 South Dixie Highway, this is the second Miami location for Shake Shack (the other is in South Beach). Incidentally, there's a Five Guys right down the street (at 1540 South Dixie Highway).
The recent New York Times Magazine story on Danny Meyer hinted at this new spot — the author drove around with Meyer and partner David Swinghamer as they scouted new locations in Miami. Swinghammer said the clientele would be undergrads and "[s]hould have a lot of TVs, and ultra-cool music so the students come over... This is an alternative to going to a bar."
