Jonathan's Card, that publicly-available Starbucks card/social experiment that lets anyone use it to buy coffee or, inversely, put money on it, is being called a "viral marketing campaign" because the card's creator, Jonathan Stark, works for a mobile computing company that has done work with Starbucks. Stark hit up Facebook to deny the claim: "The Jonathan's Card experiment was completely my idea, Starbucks had absolutely nothing to do with it, and until recently, I was scared to death that Starbucks might sue the crap out of me."
