Selling Groceries With Scented Air

Smell-Supermarket.JPGA New York supermarket is pumping its aisles full of artificially food-scented air, hoping the aromas will make customers buy more stuff. Brooklyn's Net Cost market has "specialized scent machines mounted on its walls" that spew out a "never-ending scent" of grapefruit in the produce section, and rosemary focaccia in the bakery. The store's sales, at least in the produce department, have increased by 7 percent. [CBS]
