Blogger in Taiwan Jailed For Slanderous Restaurant Review

A Taiwanese blogger is going to jail for 30 days and paying NT$200,000 (about US$6,930) after she wrote a negative review of a Taichung beef noodle restaurant back in 2008. The owner filed charges against her for defamation: the blogger claimed the food was too salty, that the owner was a bully, and that the building was full of cockroaches. That last one was deemed "narration of facts, not intentional slander" by the court, although health inspectors "did not find conditions to be as unsanitary as...described." Be careful, Taiwanese bloggers: piss off the wrong restaurant owner and you might end up in jail. Might as well just lock up all the Yelpers as a preemptive move.
