Here's a look at the first issue of Lucky Peach, the new quarterly from McSweeney's edited by New York chef David Chang, Peter Meehan and Chris Ying. The advertising-free 174-page issue is about ramen, and they cover it from all angles: A Chang-Meehan tour of Japan, a cartoon-look at "Tokyo's Ramen Gods," a Ruth Reichl instant noodle taste test, a ramen timeline, and many recipes, including one that uses ramen seasoning packets to make a potato chip dip.
As an added bonus, there's also a conversation about mediocrity among Chang, No Reservations host Anthony Bourdain and wd~50 chef Wylie Dufresne about mediocrity in which Bourdain is actually the least angry of the trio and Dufresne takes on farm-to-table restaurants: "The fact that we're talking about the ingredients rather than what people are doing with the ingredients is a mistake." The ramen issue of Lucky Peach is out today.
