After they saved his life, it only makes sense Grant Achatz would want to give back to the doctors who helped him. Last night, Achatz hosted a sold-out $2,500-a-plate fundraising dinner to benefit the University of Chicago Department of Medicine's head and neck research group. The 12-course dinner raised approximately $150,000, according to co-owner Nick Kokonas, which was about $50,000 more than last year's dinner. Kokonas said 100 percent of the proceeds will sponsor a doctor working on cutting-edge research. "If it works, it can have a huge impact," Kokonas said. [Crain's via Eater Chicago]
