McDonald's will advertise to children if it damn well pleases! Or, as CEO Jim Skinner put it when defending the fast food chain's decision to use Ronald McDonald in advertisements, "this is about choice." Skinner clarified on the clown, "Ronald McDonald isn't going anywhere." The comments were in response to a letter a watchdog group ran in several major newspapers asking McDonald's to retire the mascot.
Skinner also specified that Ronald McDonald "is an ambassador to McDonald's, and he is an ambassador for good." Got that? Not an ambassador for evil, despite the admittedly creepy clown factor.
