JBF Announces 'Scholarship For Immigrants in the Kitchen'

New, 5 comments

So last night was the James Beard Awards, and the James Beard Foundation, via their Twitter and press release, announced a new scholarship called the "James Beard Foundation Scholarship for Immigrants in the Kitchen." In what was a possible response to Anthony Bourdain's recent criticisms of the JBF, the Food Network is fully funding four $5,000 scholarships to "aspiring chefs for their culinary education" which are "earmarked for students who have immigrated to America from another country."

Apparently $20,000 in total will serve to "recognize the international flavors, ingredients, and recipes that continue to inform and redefine American cuisine." But it is amusing that the company Bourdain works for ponied up the money (Scripps owns the Travel Channel and the Food Network).
