Nate Appleman Wins Chopped All-Stars

New, 10 comments

Spoiler alert you guys: So last night Food Network aired the finale of Chopped All-Stars in which "chefs you know and love go head-to-head" in the Chopped arena. The fierce competitors who won their respective rounds and made it to the final: Next Food Network Star's Michael Proietti, Secrets of a Restaurant Chef's Anne Burrell, NYC chef Aaron Sanchez, and recent Chipotle hire Nate Appleman.

We'll save you the recap: Proietti was axed first, Burrell second, and then it was down to Sanchez and Appleman in the dessert round. Appleman said it best: "I think Aaron's really gonna give me a run for my money. He's not a chef that's just on TV, he's a restaurant chef just like me. We cook all the time."

In the end, the judges (Alex Guarnaschelli, Marcus Samuelsson, and Marc Murphy) thought that Sanchez's chocolate cake was too dry; Appleman's honey and grapefruit semifredo with chickpea/sesame caramel and a chayote salad edged him out for the win. He won $50,000 for his charity of choice, the Kawasaki Disease Foundation, of which his son suffered. Cue the waterworks when Appleman's kid comes running out! Awwww.

Here's video from the dessert round and the decision:
