Critic (and chair of San Pellegrino's UK panel) Jay Rayner explains why elBulli was not included on this year's list: "Apparently the powers that be at Restaurant Magazine, which runs the list, decided that because Adrià is to close the restaurant in July and turn it into a culinary foundation it should no longer be eligible." He also writes about the junkets offered by restaurants and tourism boards: "I could have eaten my way around the globe on the offers that came my way in the last 12 months. I took none of them."
