Starbucks Sued After Fatal Tip-Jar Robbery

New, 10 comments

A St. Louis man died from injuries he sustained after chasing a teenage thief from a Starbucks, and now his estate is suing the coffee chain over a wrongful-death claim.

In 2008, customer Roger Kreutz saw a young man make off with the store's tip jar (which only had $5 in it) and chased him out of the coffee shop, only to fall to the pavement when the thief backed into him with his car. Kreuz died two days later. The lawsuit claims the store didn't have proper security for the tip jar and that having it at all "invited the act of perpetration of said crime."
