Last night on Iron Chef America, Emma Hearst (Sorrella, NYC) — and incidentally Eater NY's Hottest Chef back in 2009 — challenged Iron Chef Michael Symon in battle mozzarella. When asked about her age, for she is the youngest challenger ever to compete on Iron Chef, she replied, "I think at the end of the day, whoever's the oldest Italian grandmother will prevail." After she admitted to turning 24 last month, Symon laughed, "24? My son is 23!"
The judges were, of course, Italian-themed: "Italian culinary specialist" Mario Rizzotti, restaurateur Donatella Arpaia, and Cooking Channel show host David Rocco. The food on both sides looked really great! Would Hearst's burrata and mozzarella-stuffed meatball beat out Symon's arancini and mozzarella water sorbet? The final score below and videos of all the dishes:
Spoiler alert: Michael Symon defeated Emma Hearst by a score of 53 to 48.
