The IACP has announced its 2011 Award Finalists! And who's on the list? Not the Frankies, whose The Frankies Spuntino Kitchen Companion came out well before the fall cookbook onslaught, and thus perhaps was forgotten?
Six nominations for Saveur, perhaps because, as Time Out Chicago points out, "it's one of the only literary food mags left." Barry Estabrook also came up big with three nominations (noms for his blog Politics of the Plate, Culinary Writing That Makes a Difference, and Culinary Writing without Recipes).
And a surprisingly competitive Compilations section, with Amanda Hesser's The Essential New York Times Cookbook up against Sara Roahen and John T. Edge's The Southern Foodways Alliance Community Cookbook.
Other than that, René Redzepi's Noma is nominated for being the prettiest (Food Photography and Styling), last year's Beard Award-winning The Country Cooking of Ireland by Colman Andrews is nominated for International, and, as usual, there's lots of love for books about Southern food.
