When Katie Couric interviewed Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz for CBS Sunday Morning, she asked some hard-hitting questions and broke out the populist rhetoric: During the recession, did the coffee chain have "a tin ear" to people's needs? "You know, maybe they couldn't spend $5 on their coffee every day?"
Schultz denies it, and reminds her that a cup of coffee at Starbucks costs $1.50. Couric — who makes $15 million a year — protests that "these fancy coffee drinks that people are addicted to" cost a lot more! Maybe she's the one addicted to fancy coffee drinks?
