JBF Announces 2011 Cookbook, Media, and Journalism Awards Finalists

The James Beard Awards were announced from Portland, Oregon today (we live-blogged it, if you missed it)! Let's take a look at the cookbook, media and journalism nominees.

First up: journalism! After his three IACP nominations, it wasn't really a surprise that Barry Estabrook got three Beard nods (on for his blog, Politics of the Plate, one for Profile and one for Environment, Food Politics & Policy). Nominations for group blogs went to the Dallas Observer's City of Ate, Epicurious' Epi-Log and Grub Street NY; the previously-mentioned Politics of the Plate, Poor Man's Feast, and Red Cook got the individual nominations. Also, Twitter mashup phenomenon @ruthbourdain snagged a nom for Humor.

On to cookbooks. The Frankies Spuntino Manual got a nomination despite being skipped over by the IACP, and Noma got two nods (Professional Cooking and Photography). Also, the nominations for single subject cookbooks are Meat by James Peterson, Good Meat by Deborah Krasner, and Ham by Bruce Weinstein and Mark Scarbrough, and Pig by James Villas was nominated for American Cooking. We guess we know what the foundation was looking for this year?

As for Broadcast Media: the 60 Minutes piece on José Andrés got recognized, and food writer Josh Ozersky got one for his webcasts. Alton Brown, Duff Goldman and Bobby Flay were recognized in the Personality/Host category. Eric Ripert is nominated twice: once for his PBS show Avec Eric and along with Anthony Bourdain for their radio show Turn & Burn on Martha Stewart Radio. Congratulations to all the nominees!
