Scientists have declared oysters to be "functionally extinct"! 85% of the world's wild oyster reefs have disappeared, and now oysters "lack any significant ecosystem role and remain at less than 1 per cent of prior abundances in many bays and ecoregions." But congratulations, residents of North America: you are lucky enough to boast 75% of the world's remaining wild oysters. Now don't mess it up.
