The Japanese have been selling weird stuff from vending machines for ages — fresh baked pizza, prepared ramen, live crabs — and are now turning their attention to improving the machine itself. Here's a concept model for a new vending machine from Sanden that utilizes a 65-inch transparent HD touchscreen display. The machine uses facial recognition software to determine the age and gender of the person standing in front of it and displays ads based on his or her demographic. It also, helpfully, can display emergency exit information if necessary. Meanwhile, America is just beginning to explore the wild worlds of selling wine and raw meat. Snooze. Here's a video:
