Boom. Just like that, after yesterday's announcement that Michael Nagrant would be replacing Pat Bruno as the restaurant critic of the Chicago Sun-Times, here's his first review. And it's of Masa Azul, a "partially realized" "earnest pipe dream" that nets 1.5 stars. Meanwhile, Tom Sietsema encounters a tough pastry at Le Zinc in DC and recommends the restaurant "should offer safety goggles and a chain saw with its lemon tart." Here are the end-of-week reviews:
Los Angeles:
Los Angeles Times/S. Irene Virbila: L'Epicerie Market, 1.5 stars
Washington, DC:
Washington Post/Tom Sietsema: Le Zinc, 1 star
Chicago:
Chicago Sun-Times/Michael Nagrant: Masa Azul, 1.5 stars
Chicago Reader/Kate Schmidt: MorSo
