Take a look at the new edition of The Silver Spoon cookbook from Phaidon (out October 24, preorder on Amazon). This massive Italian cookbook is an encyclopaedia of classic dishes, and has been in print in Italian since 1950. The new edition is Phaidon's first total overhaul the book; they published the first English edition in 2005.
So what's new? The book comes with 400 brand new pictures and a good 241 extra pages. Not too shabby. The new edition also includes some much needed menu assistance (you try navigating 2,000+ recipes without help). Included: a section in the beginning of the book on menu planning and a new section of suggested "festive occasion" menus. There are also a few additions to the celebrated chef menu section including ones by Italian chef Massimo Bottura, Tony Mantuano of Spiaggia in Chicago, and chefs Marc Carbone and Rich Torrisi of Torrisi Italian Specialties in New York.
