Why Are Fruit Loops Cheaper Than Fruit, Obama?

As a supplement to his State of the Union address, President Obama did a Q&A on YouTube, and one of the questions submitted had to do with the price of food. Why, exactly, do we live in a country where Fruit Loops cereal is cheaper than actual fruit? And what does Obama plan on doing about it? Obama mentions the First Lady's healthy eating initiatives and the recently-passed Child Nutrition Bill, but also says he's working on increasing access to fresh produce in communities where fruits and vegetables are hard to come by.
