Hot Sauce Contest Sends Judge to Hospital

capsaicin-extract-hot-sauce-150.jpgA judge at the Dallas Fiery Food Challenge was sent to the hospital in an ambulance after sampling an entry that contained capsaicin extract. (Capsaicin is the chemical that makes chilis taste spicy.) Entries containing capsaicin extract had previously been banned from the competition, and one judge who also tasted the entry called it "a nightmare in a bottle." [Dallas Observer]
