Master of the culinary universe Mario Batali is hosting and competing in Asphalt Chef, an Iron Chef-style competition charity event on Saturday, November 6th at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth. Batali is up against self-professed culinary rockstar Guy Fieri and Texas chef/meat lover Tim Love.
To hype the event, Batali, Fieri, and Love are going to engage in a little friendly online trash-talking. Batali fired the first shot on YouTube, calling Tim Love his main competition but confesses, "Guy Fieri I'm a little less worried about."
Fieri responded on YouTube to accept the challenge, asking Batali to take it easy on him: "What's this? Iron Chef Batali beats up on Guy Fieri, Next Food Network Star?" But then he does something especially cruel to Batali's trademark orange Crocs. See the videos below.
To make it more interesting, the chefs are being paired with other celebrities: Batali will work with four-time defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion Jimmie Johnson, Fieri will partner with 2004 Sprint Cup Series champ Kurt Busch and Love will be paired with Foreigner's lead singer Kelly Hansen.
Later that night Batali is also hosting "Mario Batali’s Ultimate Tailgate Party," with both events benefiting Speedway Children’s Charities and the Mario Batali Foundation. A combination ticket is available for both Asphalt Chef and the Tailgate Party at $350. Individual tickets are $250 for Asphalt Chef and $150 for the Tailgate Party.
The winner receives an oversized, orange Mario Batali peppermill trophy and $5,000 for their favorite charity.
