Another Show With Chef in the Title Had a Finale, Too

New, 3 comments

While Top Chef had its finale on Wednesday night at 10 pm, MasterChef also had its finale (from 8-10pm) — you know, that show on Fox with Gordon Ramsay, Joe Bastianich, and Graham Elliot as judges. Many people dismissed the show, saying that it was just a bunch of non-professional shoemakers, but that's sort of the point? Anyway, spoiler: 22-year-old Whitney Miller — who sported trademark huge earrings as flair — won the title of MasterChef and a whopping $250,000 (making Bravo look a little stingy with the $125,000 prize).

It might be apples to oranges (or apples to fancy apples?) comparing network to cable ratings, but we were curious how Top Chef and MasterChef compared. Turns out the MasterChef finale had nearly double the amount of viewers compared to the Top Chef finale.

The season seven finale of Top Chef landed 2.695 million viewers (1.4/4 A18-49) compared to the season six finale's 3.4 million and the season five finale's 3.7 million.

Up against a dominant two-hour America's Got Talent (that averaged 14.3 million viewers), MasterChef landed an average of 4.811 million viewers (2.0/6 A18-49).

And this is not the end of MasterChef, as Fox recently renewed it for a second season. And Top Chef All-Stars is rumored to be on its way. Meanwhile, in Australia, a junior edition of MasterChef recently premiered to very strong ratings.
